The Naruto Shippuden Deck-building Game is the latest release in our Cerberus Engine deck-building game series. You will see familiar game play as you take on the role of Naruto, Kakashi, or one of their brave and heroic allies in the struggle against the forces of evil! While you begin armed with only the ability to Punch your foes, as the game progresses, you will add new, more powerful cards to your deck, with the goal of defeating as many Archenemies as you can. In the end, the player who has accumulated the most Victory Points from the cards in his or her deck wins the game.



The Starter Deck

Each player starts with a deck of seven Starter Punch cards and three Vulnerability cards. You will use your Punch cards to buy more powerful cards to your deck, improving it as the game goes on. Vulnerability cards represent the things that occasionally cause a Character to falter. They don’t do anything for you when drawn or played, so it’s best to get rid of them as soon as possible.

 

The Line-Up

The Line-Up always contains five cards you can purchase with your Power Points. The card types in the Main Deck are Enemies, Allies, Equipment, Locations, and Techniq​ues.

New Game Mechanic: Chakra!

Earlier this year we asked the Community to choose 4 chacters who would join Naruto, Kakashi and Sakura as the main playable Heroes and your winners were Hinata, Jiraya, Shikamaru and Killer Bee! All 7 of the Oversized are featured on the Naruto Product Page

We are excited to preview one of the new mechanics in the game - Chakra. Generate Chakra and then use powerful Chakra Abilities. Your Character has four Chakra Points. Those points are colored to match the various card types. When you play a card that matches a Chakra Point on your Character, you can play that card to fill that point for the turn. For each card you play into an empty Chakra Point, you generate 1 Chakra. This is written on cards as +1 Chakra, just like how +Power is written. This allows you to use the Chakra a card generates on its own Chakra ability.

Let's take a look at the Heroes to see how this works.

In this round, Naruto is my Hero. He has four Charkra slots: (2) Enemy, (1) Ally and (1) Starter.

Naruto Chakra: (2) Enemy, (1) Ally, (1) Starter

To maximize this turn, I want to attach the matching cards to each Chakra slot (note: you can only attach one card per slot). If I attach at least three cards for 3 Chakra Points, I can use my ability [Chakra(3): You pay 3 less to defeat Archenemies this turn]. My turn would look something like this:

  • First I attach a Starter Punch card to my Starter slot. The other Punch I play cannot be placed into the filled Chakra Point, but I still get +1 Power from it.
  • The next card I play is the Enemy Danzo, placing him into an Enemy Chakra slot. No one avoids the Attack, so I get +2 Power.

  • Finally, I play my card, Kakashi into my Ally slot. He allows me to grab some help from the Line-Up.
  • I pull Dark Naruto out of the Line-Up and place it into my last Chakra Point.
  • Dark Naruto is now worth +4 Power since I have 4 Chakra Points filled.

This is what my Character would look like after playing all of my cards:

This gives me a total of 8 Power and 4 Chakra. Now I can use my Chakra Character ability on Naruto that allows me to pay 3 less to defeat an Archenemy this turn. Fortunately, the current Archenemy is NAGATO, who has a cost of 11. I have defeated him with the help of my Character's built in Chakra ability. Now that my turn has ended, I must place Dark Naruto back into the Line-Up, and then place all of the cards I played this turn into my discard pile. On my next turn, I will have to play new cards into my Chakra Points to keep powering up!
