Street Fighter Collectibles Announced by Cryptozoic and Capcom
Figures Based on Video Game Series to Be Previewed at This Week’s New York Toy Fair
Lake Forest, CA – February 19, 2017 – Cryptozoic Entertainment, leading creator of board games, trading cards, and collectibles, and Capcom, leading publisher and developer of video games, today announced they are working together to create various collectibles based on the popular Street Fighter® video game franchise. The partnership will begin with the release of several lines of figures in 2017: Street Fighter Knockouts, Street Fighter Lil’ Knockouts, and Mighty Meeples: Street Fighter. These figures are being previewed at New York Toy Fair, February 18-21, at Cryptozoic’s booth (#5350) on Level 1 of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
“Cryptozoic has had a Street Fighter II arcade machine in our offices since the day we were founded,” said John Sepenuk, Co-CEO of Cryptozoic Entertainment. “The game series and its iconic characters feel like they’re a part of our family. So, we are beyond thrilled to work closely with Capcom to create these exciting collectibles based on Street Fighter.”
Street Fighter Knockouts are 7-inch vinyl figures that feature some of the powerful women from the video game series. Packaged in display-worthy window box packaging, Series 1 includes Chun-Li, Cammy, and Sakura. Designed by Pedro Astudillo and sculpted by Anders Ehrenborg.
Street Fighter Lil Knockouts are 2.75-inch figures that come in collectible blind-reveal tins. Series 1 includes fan-favorite Street Fighter characters Ryu, Blanka, and Chun-Li and consists of ten unique figures plus two rare variant Chase figures.
Mighty Meeples: Street Fighter are 1-inch wooden figures that feature Street Fighter characters and can be collected for display or can replace pieces in any board game to upgrade the experience. First appearing over 15 years ago, the "meeple"—short for "my people"—possesses a distinctive shape that has made it a popular choice for player pieces in a variety of games.
Capcom’s Street Fighter video game franchise launched in arcades in 1987 and immediately made its mark, as players took on the challenge of battling through an international martial arts tournament. The second game in the series, 1991’s Street Fighter® II, became a worldwide phenomenon, with gameplay and design elements that revolutionized the fighting game genre. Chief among these was the ability of players to choose from a diverse group of characters, each with a unique fighting style and a different country of origin. The numerous updates and sequels in the series have continued to be hugely popular, including the most recent release, 2016’s Street Fighter® V.
The various new lines of Street Fighter collectibles from Cryptozoic and Capcom can be viewed at New York Toy Fair this week and will be released in stores worldwide later in 2017.
