Autograph Policy Revisions

By Miranda Charsky

Review our December 2014 policy update here.

As part of our “Fans First” philosophy, we strive to create high-quality trading cards with collectors as our top priority. In line with this philosophy, we made a few decisions to create the type of product that we, as collectors, would want, and that keeps the desires of the collectors at the forefront of our process:

-Increased standard card thickness to make even Base cards very durable, and Wardrobe cards that don't bubble out over the costume swatch

-Card-signed Autographs that were held and actually signed by the actor/actress, never stickers

-We've continued to work with licensors to decrease the frame on the front of Sketch cards, so artists have more room and flexibility to create the art that collectors are really excited to open

-Continuous pressure on printers to increase printing, cutting, collating, and pack-out quality, with increased checks along each stage of the production process to help catch any errors before cards make their way to collectors

-Only including Redemption cards for items that won't fit into packs, never for cards we don't have in hand

Additionally, we strive to release correct information in a timely manner. Part of this strategy has included our policy to release the names of Autograph signers for each trading card set only after we have signed cards in hand. This was in part to make sure collectors were not disappointed if cards did not make it in time for pack-out of the set.

While there were a lot of good intentions with the policy, the reality is Autograph cards are one of the very last things we get back in house before the printer packs out the trading card set.

The fact that this vital information is shared with our community sometimes only weeks before release is something we are aware has caused frustration for our distributors, dealers, and collectors. I think it is really important to acknowledge that we have certainly heard that feedback, and while we think the motivation for this policy was with our collectors' interests at heart, we have decided we can best serve our customers by altering this policy moving forward.

From now on, signers for each trading card set will be announced once we have signed contracts. This happens much earlier in the set development cycle, allowing a lot more time for collectors to have the relevant information to decide to order a product.

It is important that collectors, dealers, and distributors be aware that sometimes signers under contract are unable to fulfill this obligation. This scenario is incredibly rare, but does occur from time to time. Sometimes, just like us, their lives get in the way of even the best of intentions, and sometimes cards are damaged in shipping. While we always try to accommodate such issues by delaying the product within a reasonable time frame, eventually we get to the point where we must move forward to pack-out without cards. This fact weighed very heavily in our decision whether or not to change our policy, but ultimately we decided that these situations are so rare that it is a reasonable risk, especially when we consider the potential upside for collectors.

In the event a signer will not be included, we will make it our very top priority to communicate this fact to everyone as soon as possible. Unfortunately, this will likely be last-minute as we decide to move forward with production merely weeks before the release. However, as it is still our policy never to include Redemption cards for something we don't have in hand, and this means will not insert Redemption cards for Autograph signers that are not available when we must pack-out. Instead, we will work very had to make sure we still acquire the missed cards, and distribute them sometime in the future. It is important to us that all parties involved are aware of this possible scenario, and keep in mind that until we change the status of a signer from Contracted (marked with an *) to Confirmed (Bold) that it is possible that they will not included.

We are excited to share with collectors an updated list of Contracted (*) and Confirmed (Bold) Autograph signers for the following products:
